So You Want To Stream Jackbox

It’s Friday night, you boot up your sick computer rig, open The Jackbox Party Pack 11, log on to Twitch, and press GO LIVE! Now you’re streaming Hear Say and some rando gets into the room with the username POOPBUTT67 and you know it’s not one of your friends or regulars. So what do you do? Let’s go through ways to utilize Party Pack 11’s moderation tools!

Before playing any of the five games in The Jackbox Party Pack 11, check out SETTINGS. From the SETTINGS menu, you’ll see four column options. Select CONTENT CONTROL. Under CONTENT CONTROL, there are five settings you can toggle on/off:

  • Family-Friendly: Turn ON to avoid the game’s more provocative content
  • Profanity Filter: Words used in hateful speech and profanity will cause input to be rejected
  • Moderation: Allow moderators to approve or reject input. Moderators join the game on their controller at mod.jackbox.tv
  • Filter US-Centric Content: Reduce number of US-centric prompts
  • Enable News Notifications: Allow the game to pop-up certain news and updates at launch

Each of these content control settings can be toggled ON/OFF. While playing the game in a public setting, including streaming, we strongly encourage hosts to turn on FAMILY-FRIENDLY and MODERATION, and to set PROFANITY FILTER to STRICT.

How To Use Moderation

You, a friend, or one of your mods should write down the MODERATION password which changes every time you toggle MODERATION ON/OFF. When toggled ON, the password works for each game in The Jackbox Party Pack 11 and you won’t need to change it.

Moderation can be used by anyone with the MODERATION password by going to mod.jackbox.tv on their controller (instead of going to jackbox.tv). Type in the ROOM CODE and PASSWORD. As content is submitted by players, the moderator can view each submission and APPROVE or DENY unsavory content.

How to Kick Players

Sometimes you just need to kick someone from the game entirely. It could be due to a technical issue, a player going AFK, or for not being a team player. Whatever the reason, you can kick players from The Jackbox Party Pack 11 using MODERATION at mod.jackbox.tv.

Each player’s name will pop up at the top of the moderation screen on the moderator’s controller. A bright, red button labeled “KICK?” appears under each player's name. Press the KICK? button and the player will be removed from the game.

Please note that if too many players are kicked from the game, the game will need to be restarted based on the minimum player requirement to play a game.

General Tips for Streaming Jackbox Games

Others ways to help protect your stream can be found under SETTINGS > GAMEPLAY:

  • AUDIENCE: Turn ON to allow non-contestants to join and affect the game
  • POST-GAME SHARING: Allow players to optionally share answers and scores from the game on social media
  • PASSWORDED GAME: Generate a password that players must enter to join the game (on TOP of the room code)
  • REQUIRE TWITCH: Requires players to be logged into Twitch; this creates more accountability on participating players and removes a level of anonymity
  • START GAME FROM CONTROLLER ONLY: Games must be started with controller, not from player devices
  • ALLOW ROOM CODE HIDING: Allow the on-screen room code to be hidden

Take time to familiarize yourself with all of the tools available to you under SETTINGS in The Jackbox Party Pack 11 before you go live.
